We affirm the Family Courts order granting custody to the father. It is well settled that the preeminent concern in child custody matters is the best interests of the child (see, Eschbach v Eschbach, 56 N.Y.2d 167; Friederwitzer v Friederwitzer, 55 N.Y.2d 89). Inasmuch as no prima facie right to custody exists in favor of either parent (see, Domestic Relations Law § 70, 240), the court is obliged to conduct a comprehensive hearing and to carefully consider all relevant factors in rendering its decision; the courts determination, made after such a hearing, is entitled to great weight and should not lightly be set aside (see, Eschbach v Eschbach, supra, at 171-174). Upon a review of the record, we conclude that no reason exists to disturb the determination made in this case and agree with the Family Court that the best interests of the child will be served by awarding custody to the father.
